Adams Class (Year 1 and 2)

Adams class is the name for the children in year 1 and 2. There are currently 12 children in our class, 7 in year 1 and 5 in year 2. Our class teacher is called Miss Cashford and our teaching assistant is called Mrs Gubby.

We have started our Summer term with our Olympics topic. We have learned lots already!
We went back in time to the Ancient Olympics, looking at pictures of past Olympic events, some of which are still around today. We found out about some of the countries that have hosted the Olympic games in the past and saw some pictures of London 1948 Summer Olympics. Here is a picture of the opening ceremony:

We made our own Olympic torches:

We also made leaflets for the tourists travelling to London for the 2012 Olympic games. Our leaflets show all the interesting things that London has to offer. Here is an example of a leaflet produced by a year 1 pupil:

In English we have been reading some of Robert Louis Stevenson's  Poems. So far we have read The Moon, From a Railway Carriage, The Swing, Escape at Bedtime, Windy Nights and Where Go The Boats? We enjoy listening to his work and have tried hard to use our wonderful imaginations when thinking of our own ideas. We wrote postcards to Robert Louis Stevenson about his Where go the Boats? poem. Below is a sample of a year 2 postcard:

We really enjoyed our 'Squares' themed maths morning where the whole school came together to create a squares collage and go on a maths trail. In class we made Tangram pictures by dissecting a square:

We also studied the work of the artist Piet Mondrian, recreating his work on squared card. Here are some of our beautiful pictures.

We are looking forward to learning more about the Olympics and we are very excited about our Transport themed Activity week coming up at the end of May.
