Darwin class is the name for the children in year 3. We are named after Charles Darwin the famous naturalist, who wrote "The Origin of the Species". There are currently 7 children in our class. Our class teacher is called Miss Emmerson.
We are a small, fun and caring class who love to learn. We make sure that we follow our school Golden Rules as well as our Class Charter that we have written ourselves.
Summer Term 1
How great to have the good weather back as we enter the summer term!
We hope you had a good rest over the Easter holiday and the children are ready to learn as much as they can before the school year ends.
This term we have some fabulous things to look forward to. Blackland Farm is only a couple of weeks away and we are all really excited to experience new things and get stuck into some fun team building. Check back soon for pictures to see how we got on! Also this term, we have Science day on the 15th May where we have a special visitor to show us some great experiements. We also have test week in the week before half term which is a great chance for the children to show us what they can do!
In topic this term we are Investigating Pattern. It is an art based topic, encouraging us to understand how to create aesthetically pleasing patterns and to try a wide variety of media. Watch this space for some wonderful pieces of art!
In Science we are learning about friction and different forces. We have been using Newton meters to measure the force used to move objects across different surfaces, which we now know create high and low friction. We're looking froward to Science day as we will be able to put all of our knowledge and understanding of scientific enquirys into action with some different experiments.
In PSHE this term we are learning out about people around us and have so far spent time talking and finding out about similar likes and dislikes. We have created a connection web where we identified how we are all connected in various different ways whether these are physical features or things we cannot see on the surface. How are you the same and different to the person sitting next to you?!
We have built some great relationships this year with each other and have enjoyed having new children in the class to form new friendships with.

Spring Term
We have come back from Christmas ready to learn and full of excitement. We hope you had a lovely time too!
Our Topic this term has a Geography focus and is called Settlements. We began the term watching a clip from a Wallace and Gromit film and hunting for clues about the location where the film was set. We considered how and why places change by considering the changes that have taken place around our school. We have begun to learn about some of the earliest settlers in our country, the Saxons. We are looking forward to finding out even more as the term progresses.
We have also been mapping out the route Vikings would have made to get to England and other countries they invaded, like Vinland (America). We pretended to be Seif the Lucky and wrote back home about our adventures!
We have been thinking about what is important in a town, and then created our own, complete with football stadium and wedding dress shop!
In Science we are learning what makes plants grow. We have looked into the roots and the stem, and are going to be investigating the effect of different variables on a plant's wellbeing as we plan our own fair tests.
In PSHE this term we are thinking about risks and considerng the risks of drugs, smoking and alcohol and the effects they have. In ICT we have been using the Roamer device, inputting instructions and learning to give commands to make a simple pattern.
